Many people feel blocked if they are asked to sketch or to draw at the office. They think “I have to be an artist” and refrain from just doing it: self-censorship applied.
I’ve made the experience that you don’t have to be an artist to engage visually with customers and to tell them visual stories. With some basics tips and tricks everybody can gain confidence in sketching and drawing in front of colleagues or customers. That’s what the “Visual Pitch” 1-hour course is all about: to improve the sketching confidence of employees – already applied for business consultants, solution architects, and presales colleagues.
And of course it’s only a starting point. There will be no progress without applying the tips and tricks on a flipchart or a whiteboard. My colleagues from SAP Design offer two great resources to further develop visual skills:
- openSAP “Be Visual!” 4-week course
- Scenes – a tool and approach to build visual stories
Eventually, thank you to Sandra Schulze and Reinhard Ematinger who opened my eyes and taught me the basics of sketching and story telling. Sandra is a truly professional graphical recorder. Reinhard is one of the best trainer I’ve ever met and a gifted business innovation facilitator.
What is your experience with sketching?
I have gained confidence to use the visibility method to talk to customers and explain process and ideas using this method. I am a great proponent for visual presentation using drawings as explained in the Visual Processing method.
Thank you for your feedback, Neil! Glad to read that you have started with sketching. Happy to support if needed.
